The National Police shot and killed Yeison Nivar Pérez, also known as «Mandrake,» this Sunday, one of the main suspects in the death of senior police officer Silo Miguel Popoters Polanco in an incident in the Villa Juana area early Sunday morning. The institution reported the incident through a press release.
According to preliminary reports, 24-year-old Nivar Pérez was fatally shot after allegedly confronting police officers in the Ensanche Luperón area, where he was actively sought for his alleged involvement in the officer’s homicide during a robbery attempt in Villa Juana, which he resisted.
Authorities stated that «Mandrake» was identified as the leader of a gang of robbers, some of whom were involved in the attack that led to the death of Major Popoters Polanco.
During the operation, the deceased was found with an illegally carried .380 caliber pistol, which, according to the report, was used to confront the responding officers. Dalgwin David Valdez Marte, another alleged group member, was arrested during the same operation, while several others remain at large.
The National Police confirmed that they are conducting active operations to locate and apprehend the other individuals involved. They reiterated their commitment in a press release to clarify the case and bring all responsible parties to justice.
Details from the preliminary report indicate that «Mandrake» was identified as the leader of the criminal structure, with other members involved in the attack on the senior officer, along with fugitives José Miguel Guillermo de Jesús, Aneury Amaury Espino Tejeda, Yeimy Felipe García Heredia, and an individual only known as Yoel Hernández Jiménez, alias «Yoel el Malo.»
Police officers were alerted via radio about a gunshot victim being taken to the Doctor Francisco Moscoso Puello Hospital, where the death was later confirmed.
