Héctor Rafael Rodríguez Urges President Abinader to Confront Corruption Issue

In a tedeum ceremony commemorating the 182nd anniversary of the Battle of March 30th, Archbishop Héctor Rafael Rodríguez of Santiago called on President Luis Abinader to address the pressing issue of administrative corruption, which continues to trouble the population. Expressing his concern over the persistent rumors and allegations surrounding this scourge, the Archbishop emphasized the need for greater transparency and accountability in combating corruption.

«The word corruption is one that I no longer wish to mention in any setting, but it continues to disturb me; there always seems to be a new rumor… it appears to be a serious issue, Mr. President. What a disgrace, they do not leave us in peace,» he remarked.

He further stressed the importance of defending national values and fostering unity within the Dominican Republic, urging the country to transcend political divides and individual interests in pursuit of a common vision grounded in justice, peace, and development. Archbishop Rodríguez emphasized that true patriotism involves a genuine commitment to the common good, particularly in support of the most vulnerable sectors of society.

He underscored that national independence is an ongoing task that must be upheld through education, the promotion of values, and the ethical behavior of citizens. «The most crucial battle today is that of education and values: honesty, responsibility, and respect for human dignity,» he declared.

Among those in attendance at the religious event were President Abinader, First Lady Raquel Arbaje, Vice President Raquel Peña, as well as various civilian, military, and judicial authorities.
