President Luis Abinader granted special State pensions to three individuals, including former Vicente Noble mayor, Mariles Novas Labort, who left the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) in 2023 to join the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
The decree 21-26, issued on January 15, 2026, also provides a pension to former Barahona governor Genara González Marmolejos, who was replaced in 2025. Novas Labort, 67, will receive a monthly pension of 50,000 pesos, while 75-year-old González Marmolejos will receive 75,000 pesos. Maria Ramona Méndez Encarnación will receive a monthly grant of 30,000 pesos, and Juan Valdez Mena’s pension will increase to 50,000 pesos.
Changes in Mariles Novas Labort’s political affiliations occurred when she resigned from the PLD on October 16, 2023, after more than 30 years of membership, due to dissatisfaction with the internal survey results that defined the municipal candidacy for the 2024 elections in Vicente Noble. She joined the PRM on January 29, 2024, supporting Orangel Sena, the current mayor.
